Applications for tuition fees’ exemption at Nantes Université
Enrolment in a programme leading to a national diploma or an engineering degree is subject to the payment of university tuition fees. Depending on your personal circumstances, you may apply to Nantes Université for a full or partial exemption.
After completing your administrative enrolment, you may submit an individual exemption application. Your personal situation (financial resources, vulnerable circumstances, etc.) will be carefully reviewed by the Aid and Exemption Committee.
Only students enrolled in initial education are concerned by the following procedures.
Students enrolled in continuing education should contact their continuing educative service directly.
An exemption is a financial support measure intended to help students successfully complete their studies. At Nantes Université, it can only be granted once during a given study cycle. It is valid only for the current academic year and will not be renewed.
Please note, exemption is NOT AUTOMATIC. It depends on your individual circumstances and on the supporting documents submitted, which must be legible and compliant with the requirements.
Only individual exemption applications submitted before the deadline with a complete application file, including at least the required supporting documents, will be reviewed by the Committee.
The tuition fees applicable to an initial education programme depend on your nationality, your programme of study and your administrative status. Depending on your circumstances, you will be subject either to national tuition fees or to differentiated tuition fees. Note: students who have received an exemption agreement from the CROUS or any other organisation, after paying their university tuition fees are not concerned by this exemption application. They must submit a refund request.
In accordance with Decree No. 2026-385, the award of individual exemptions is subject to a strict legal ceiling, set at a maximum rate of 30% for the 2026–2027 academic year.
For 2026-2027, you may submit an application if you are:
- A student who lost a scholarship at level 4, 5, 6 or 7 in the previous academic year (N-1)
- A student experiencing financial difficulties
- A student repeating a year due to being a family caregiver, pregnancy or a health problem during the previous academic year (N-1)
- A student who is the child of a Nantes Université staff member and has a household quotient (QF) ≤ €14,000
- A PhD student defending their thesis between 1 July and 31 December
- A PhD student employed as a temporary teaching assistant (ATV) who has completed more than 50 hours of teaching assignments
How do you apply ?
You must :
- First be enrolled in the programme concerned;
- Submit your application online via SURF and download the application form to be completed.

The following Committee meetings for exemptions on national tuition fees are also scheduled for 15 October, 26 November and 17 December 2026, and 21 January, 18 February, 11 March, 20 May and 17 June 2027.
What decision may you receive ?
Following the review of your application, you will be notified of a reasoned decision:
- Full exemption (excluding the €23 administrative fee), for the 2026–2027 academic year only
- Partial exemption (1/3 or 2/3 of the tuition fees), for the 2026–2027 academic year only
- Exemption refused (full national tuition fees will apply). If necessary, you may request payment facilities from the Accounting Agency: agence.comptable@univ-nantes.fr
In the event of a full or partial exemption, the university will refund any tuition fees that were unduly collected. If you did not pay the due tuition fees, you must pay as soon as possible.
For 2026-2027, you may submit an application if you are:
- A student experiencing financial difficulties
- A student enrolled in the DUEF programme at Nantes Université during the previous academic year (N-1)
- A student repeating a year due to being a family caregiver, pregnancy or a health problem during the previous academic year (N-1)

You must:
- First be enrolled in the programme concerned;
- Submit your application online via SURF and download the application form to be completed.

The following Committee meetings for exemptions from differentiated tuition fees are also scheduled for 26 November 2026 and 11 March 2027, with application deadlines of 22 November and 7 March at midnight, respectively.
What decision may you receive?
Following the review of your application, you will be notified of a reasoned decision:
- Partial exemption: you will be charged the national tuition fees only, for the 2026–2027 academic year
- Exemption refused: you will be charged the differentiated tuition fees. If necessary, you may request payment facilities from the Accounting Agency
In the event of an exemption, the university will refund any tuition fees that were unduly collected. If you did not pay the due tuition fees, you must pay as soon as possible.
