Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree « Aquaculture, Environnement and Society Plus » (ACES+)

Description

The Nantes Université is involved as partner university in the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree program ACES + (Aquaculture, Environment and Society), succeeding to the master program ACES.

Funded by the Erasmus + program, it stands for a 2-years prestigious integrated and international study program, jointly delivered by an international consortium of European higher education institutions. Coordinated by the University of Crete (Greece), this program was supported in Nantes by Laurent Barille, at the Faculty of Sciences and Techniques.

Within the framework of this joint master degree, students have the opportunity to study in several centres of European excellence in aquaculture research and learning during two academic years. The students take part into one study program per semester in one of the partner universities:

  • Semester 1 : University of the Highlands and Islands (United Kingdom)
  • Semester 2 : University of Crete (Greece)
  • Semester 3 : Nantes Université (France)
  • Semester 4 : research activities and final project in one of the 4 partner universities

At the Nantes Université, the study program is included in the Master degree "Sciences de la Terre et des Planètes, Environnement (STPE)" and is coordinated by Laurent Barille and Peter Beninger.

The program allows students to acquire key knowledge and skills linked with aquaculture and more particularly with the following cutting-edge research topics:

  • Fish, crustacean and bivalve nutrition and health
  • Welfare
  • Disease mitigation and resistance
  • Genetic improvement
  • Aquaculture systems and technology
  • Aquaculture governance and management

It also allows students to have an in-depth knowledge of the main scientific, technological and social challenges facing the sustainable development of the global aquaculture industry. This multidisciplinary and unique study program also enables to gain practical and theoretical skills thanks to internships and fieldwork.

For more information about the course program, application procedure and requirements, fees and scholarships, please consult the ACES + webpage (to be published).
